Just woke up

I think my brain is running some version of Windows.  It takes about an hour to boot up in the morning.

In the immortal words of Joss Whedon

"Grrrr Arrrgh"

Fell asleep around 11:00.

Woke up around 2:00.

I hate when this happens.

Earlier this evening I received an interesting illustration of my own (for lack of a better phrase) dual nature.  I was on amazon.com buying birthday gifts for a couple of friends when I happened upon a book entitled "Master Of The Blade: Secrets Of The Deadly Art Of Knife Fighting".  At the time, this book looked quite intriguing (I collect knives and swords) so I bought it.  A few minutes later I was randomly surfing the net and decided to do some research on akido(http://www.aikidojournal.com/new/encyclopedia.asp?entryID=18).  Shortly thereafter, I found myself back at amazon buying another book on that subject.  Now, being a zen buddhist, the interest in aikido is perfectly normal but, this aggressive streak kind of concerns me a bit.  But, then again, I've only been in one physical altercation in my (almost) 31 years so, I guess it can't be that much of a problem.

Oh, quick game recommendation before I go:

Jennifer Government Nationstates

http://nationstates.net

You get to run your own country.  Very simple, not very time consuming and extremely addictive.  See the FAQ for more details.

By the way, this would be the babblings portion of the title. :P

Sleep would be nice right about now but, unfortunately there's some part of my brain that doesn't want me to do that.

On a possibly unrelated note, I was updating my site earlier this evening.  I added a fractal gallery, which got me thinking about whether or not fractals could be considered original works.  I use a program to generate them and all I really do with the program is randomly change parameters until I get something that I think looks good.  However, unless one happens to be both a thoroughly skilled visual artist and a mathematical genius (of which I'm neither) using a program is really the only way to create them.  Oh well, for now I'll just convince myself that they are original.

This is what my brain does to me when it doesn't want me to sleep.

Currently Playing: Permanent Waves - Natural Science

Bored.

Should be writing.

Still waiting to hear from The New Yorker (I submitted a short story there a few weeks ago).  They said it would take 6-8 weeks but, artists are by nature temperamental and I guess that translates to impatient as well.
